Facebook and the new look
1. Facebooks new look that they are introducing today is they show people all your information on your homepage. When you go to someones facebook page you get more information about them at the top of thier profile.
2. Not everyone will have this new look today.
3. The reason for the change was to give more information.
4. The large flare up with facebook right now is that it gives away too much information about someone. They are not private, and reveal alot.
5. Online reputation company Rapleaf sent some interesting statistics about the most prominent opensocial companies.
6. Facebook is not coming out with a phone, they are just making apps for the phone.
7. They had opportunities from Yahoo, and other companies for tons of money.
8. The 60 minutes video was interviews mostly with Zuckerburg. Talking about the company, and if they are trying to take over internet.
9. I dont like the new design at all. I think you can see the informations if you want it dosnt have to be right there when you go to their page. Its also more complicated.

Extra Credit 12/1/10
This article talks about Social Media as our gateway to discovery and interconnection. This blog states that we get out of it what we put into it. Brian Solis states that we are basically what we share and who we know. This isn’t about connecting with anyone and everyone; this is about connecting with the right people, at the right time, and in the right place.
In the blog, Solis shows the goals for brands in social networks are manyfold…
1. Build communities and relationships
2. Create brand lift
3. Activate communities to take action
4. Establish goodwill
5. Evolve social from a cost center to also a profit center
Brian is showing us that not only are these social medias simply fun and a way to connect with friends, you are also connecting with the world and can use the social network for so much more.

According to the survey, 212 million shoppers visited stores and websites this past Black Friday weekend (Thurs., Fri., Sat. and Sun.), up from 195 million last year. People also spent more, with the average shopper spending $365.34, up from last year's $343.31. Total spending reached an estimated $45 billion.

Today is also an important day to retailers because it is, Cyber Monday. This year, retailers swamped customers with online ads and e-mail deals, and sales could top $1 million. This was an increased amount from cyber monday last year, but not as great as the sales on black friday.

Small businesses can often be swallowed up by the masses of advertising put out by larger competitors. The weekend after Thanksgiving is the biggest shopping weekend of the year and everyone is looking for a deal. Instead of sitting back and praying for a little exposure during the holidays, try getting out there with your own brand of “deals.”

Responce to, The First Amendment of Social Media: Freedom of Tweet:
This blog talks about how in the U.S constitution allows freedom of expression from government interference, but in the case of social media sites, it is totally different. People dont neccessarily get to say whatever they want.
This blog also mentions that the real world and the online world barely have a line between them. The article states, " We must realize that what we think we’re saying might not convey as desired." This means words can be translated in so many ways, when you blog it or update your status. Basically anything you type online.
This blog shows how peoples intention is often eclipsed by abbreviation, so online there is a difference between what we say and what is heard.http://www.briansolis.com/2010/11/the-first-ammendment-of-social-media-freedom-of-tweet/
Response to, Twitter analytics could have been a money-making machine:
This blog explains that Twitter couldve been making tons of money, if at first they wouldve had a page or something for businesses to colaberate total times mentioned and get calculations about tweets.
This article explains that twitter kind of offers this for free, which this article is saying is stupid because they couldve had businesses paying at least $10 a month.
I think Twitter shouldve made this extra tool right when Twitter got popular. This wouldve allowed them to make much more money.
Response to, 10 Unique iPhone Photography Accessories:
The Iphone has a decent camera which also includes tons of cool apps to make it even better, and choose different styles. This blog talks about the different accessories the Iphone offers for photography like shooting a video, still life, or just more professional style photos.
The accessories the Ipohne offers are the tripod holder, the owle bubo, the flip cage with Iphone 4 mount, the factron quattro cases, the zacuto zgrip Iphone jr. handgrip, the usb effect lenses, the griffen clarifi, the joby gorilla, a memory card connector, and the glif.
All of these really help promote the Iphone for people who love photograpy. It works just as good as an expensive camera, but you can get it all for your phone, so it all turns out cheaper.
This is a great way to promote the iPhone. The accessories are super helpful to the Iphone as well.

Gap Logo 11/11/10
1The original logo was a simple navy blue square with white lettering spelling gap. The new logo is now Gap written in black bubble letters with a blue sguare at the corner of the "p".
3. This new design did not last long at all, the design was only used for a week.
4. The new logo was used October 11th on their website.
5. "Crap logo yourself" is a website where you can make new logos for gap. It was made into a big joke on twitter.
6. Gap changed the logo in hope to make the logo more modern and fresh and was part of a plan to "elevate the brand"
7. I liked thier original logo, and i think it was stupid to try and change it because thier other logo is already so popular and familiar. I do see how they were trying to make it more modern but it wasnt necessary.
8. They said the new logo looked like crap and the should just stick with the original.
Branding 2 11/11/10

c) The apple logo is an actual apple that is very modern looking
the apple has a bite mark, and its very familiar to customers.
3. Nikes tagline is "Just do it."
Targets tagline is "Expect more, Pay less."
Apples tagline is "Think outside the box."
4. None of these brands have jingles.
5. These brands are very recognizable. Everybody can recognize the logo of these brands.

3. Brand awareness is when consumers recognize the existence and availability of a companys product or service.
4. Brand experience is the customers ability to recognize the brand under different conditions and link to the brand name, logo, jingles in memory.
5. The benefits of branding are that it helps customers find specific brands that they may like and so if there is another product being sold thats the same brand the customer will want to try it because they recognize the brand.

Social Media Communication
Ashton Kutcher & Popchips and Vitamin Water:
Popchips used Ashton Kutcher to promote thier product on Twitter. They hired him to be their “president of pop culture.” Ashton Kutcher tweets about the product of just even mentions them. Everyone who follows Ashton sees those tweets and thats how its promoted. They chose Ashton, because he is a very active user of Twitter, and so many people are following him and reading his tweets. It spreads the word fast.
Vitamin Water & Facebook Flavor Challenge:
Vitamin waters facebook page has a flavor maker for thier facebook friends to create their own flavor to the vitamin water family. Then there is a vote on the website for the best new flavor. This created a new drink called Connect. Made by the facebook users and it says that on the bottle. This was a great way to get the people involved and was a great promotion tool.

Facebook 10/20/10
My group and i learned alot about the social media site, Facebook. Facebook has over 200 million active users, and 100 logging on each day. This site is a great way to promote your business or product. They provide many marketing tools such as, your profile, messages, friends, applications, news feed, groups, market place, networks, events, pages, social ads, beacon, polls, Facebook platform ad networks, Facebook applications, and sponsored groups.
An interesting feature Facebook provides is the "like" button. This button provides the choice for someone to simply like a something rather then comment. This is a very popular tool and alos can help businesses. Customers may "like" something on thier businesses page and they can get reviews that way.
Facebook is really easy to use, and is an easy way to promote your business. You can add many friends on this site so that more and more people get your information. If friends of people that are friends with you see their friends liking or commenting on your businesses page a chain reaction can start. I think this is an excellent socail media to promote your business.

The Basics Response
This blog explains the four P`s of marketing. Promotion, Product, Price, and Place. Chris Brogan explains that most people spend most of thier time working on the Promotion. I agree with Chris, that place and product are super important. Price is something that concerns you when you fall under promotion, in Brogans opinion. There should be just as much, if more, time spent on the actually product. Also, the place is so important. If you dont worry about the place you can sell less, and fall behind other bussinesses who are spreading thier product around. I would rate this blog a 4 out f 5. I think that its not exactly a 5 because the blog dosnt show a whole lot of avidence to back his opinions up. There are a few examples though, and it gets to the point and shares good information.
Twitter response
This blog post is about the way twitter can be looked at as a marketing network. In the blog post, Brian Solis states that on Twitter 33% talk brands 1x per week, 32% make recommendations, and that 30% seek advice. This is saying that many people are putting information out there for others to read. This is marketing thier product or business because people can read the information and leave comments or reviews. Some consumers/customers follow a brand in order to interact with the company. Also some people follow the brands on twitter cause they are expecting deals or discounts. So this blog is showing that the most people who are either looking for, businesses/products/or services, or putting information out to the public are on twitter. I would rate this blog post a 5 out of 5. I would do this because he blog gives questions then answers them, soits easy to follow. He also gives alot of information and there are lots of links that led to other things. So you dont miss out on any detail, and can see charts for statistics.

Foursquare and Yelp 10/7/10
1. Foursquare is an app where you "check-in" to different places you go to. While you are there others who have been there can write tips, and then those tips are sent to the person who just checked in there. Its a competitive game where people try to become mayors and recieve badges as rewards. 2. Businesses use this application by giving discounts or deals to people who become the mayor or even just visit there a certain amount of times. 3. It promotes businesses by advertizing their discounts they give away on thier website, also people can leave reviews about the businesses that people can all read. 4. To use the application, you have to get in on your phone and then you arrive to your destination, you can check-in to the place on your phone. You can even leave detail of exactly what your doing there. 5. I personally think this is a very fun, interesting application. 6. I think if your a business you should put out deals for the app, because it seems to be something that is getting more and more popular and alot of people all over the world use this and check it all the time. 7. I would use this tool, because people would want to visit the place specificly because there may be a deal or discount. 8. I thinkit would be a smart idea to see peoples real opinions, it could help your business make changes or make things more accomidated to customers.
1.This site is organized and has categorys; restaurants, shopping, nightlife, beauty and spa, ect. There is a "review of the day" box on the page where users can tell there opinions on things or vote. then others vote on thier review. 2. Businesses use this application by having pages where people can leave reviews, also businesses can show thier deals and sales on thier page. 3. It promotes peoples products or services because people can read other peoples reviews and get tips. Also people reading thier page can see the deals and may want it or go there for the specific sale. 4. You use this application by making an account, you can vote on things, read others reviews, and write thier own reviews. 5. I think it is a cool application, and give people good tips and reviews on products and services. 6. It a marketing tool because other peoples reviews promote the product, and the deals and sales are promoted on the site as well. 7. i think if i was helping a business i would suggest this site. It could help put the name out there and others good see others opinions about it, and good reviews will bring more customers. 8. Yes, because then you can see what the customer/copnsumer wants and sell your product or have better service.

Tom Shoes and Frontera chips and salsa
1. In my opinion, Tom shoes are very fashionable and they are for a great cause. For every pair someone buys, they give a pair away. That is an awesome way to give back and have a business. 2. They arent using typical marketing techniques, because there product is used as a charity. 3. I learned how they got the whole idea to do Toms shoes. I also learned how he got his name out there to everyone, and what Tom actually stands for. 4. Rick Bayless made people aware about his product by letting them know it was made with fresh vegtables and was all home made. 5. Different marketing techniques that Frontera have used are selling the product at the restraunt. Instead of making the product in a factory, it is all home made. 6. The product tastes fresh, you can actually taste everything blended together. I think its worth the extra cost because the taste is so fresh. 7. I think the way these two products sell thier product definately works for them. They are different and thats how they get noticed.

Packaging comparison of Coke vs. Pepsi
Both products, Coke and Pepsi, have gone through many changes in thier packaging designs. Not only has the design of the bottle changed but even the look of the logo. In my opinion I like the pepsi designs better. The pepsi products have more color and design. In cokes defense, the product has the santa theme and olympic designs as well, so around those times the coke packaging is more interesting.
The structure of the coke bottle has changed its size and style over time. The original was shorter and all glass. The lids of all the bottles have changed to. The 3rd bottle was actually a different color. The bottle now is plastic no longer glass.
The labels of coke have changed as well. the original is just black and simple. Then they got more into design. Then the style of writing got fancier. Then they slowly got more color. The 1990`s bottle actually put a graphic of the bottle on the label. It also has a holiday theme. The santa on the coke product is very familiar to most. Coke also has the oplympic theme.

9/12/10 Response to: Proactiv advertisment
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/04/business/media/04adco.html
Proavtiv is one of the most popular skin care products available for people who have acne. With all the competition of other products in skin care, Proactiv remains a top choice because of its advertising and promoting. Proactiv commercials are known by all. The celebrity that is thought to have perfect skin pops up on screen and confesses of their own skin issues. This makes consumers believe that using this product will result to clear and beautiful skin. Along with celebritys, the Proactiv commercials use ordinary people who share their stories.
I believe that showing consumers results is a great why to sell a product. The "before" and "after" strategy shows people that the product does really work. Also, the idea that you are using the same product flawless celebritys use is assuring that it must work.

9/10/10 Response to: Facebook and the New Age of Privacy
This article explains how facebook is a social media that shows personal information for all to see. Facebook allows people to recieve more attention from others. Even though this article states the public are unhappy with the ways of facebook, being a facebook user, I believe there are many ways to prevent your personal information from being shared. The article mentions that there were many complains about the privacy, and Facebook did take action. The online network made changes, and added more options for personal privacy.
I use facebook daily, and im aware of the risk. But Facebook gives options to make anything private. You can choose to have photos, videos, your wall, and anything else private. There is also an even more in depth option to choose who it is blocked from. Facebook dosnt allow anyone to automatically become your friend. The facebook user gets to confirm or decline whoever the want. Though this article does make good points about the social media and the way privacy has changed, i believe there are many things the user can do to prevent information they want private.
